“Ko te ahurei o te tamaiti arahia o tatou mahi."

"Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work."

Nau Mai, Haere Mai.

He taonga te mokopuna, kia whãngaia, kia tipu, kia rea.
A child is a treasure, to be nurtured, to grow, to flourish.

Te Atawhai is a safe, nurturing haven for our tamariki, whãnau and staff to come together in a spacious natural environment. This is our turangawaiwai. An unhurried environment, which allows us to discover, explore and create our understanding of our world around us.

Each member of our Te Atawhai whãnau is on a unique journey of development and learning in the world. Our Board of Trustees, staff, whãnau and the wider community work together in collaboration for the positive learning outcomes of our tamariki. Our vision is to provide the very best high quality care and education for our taonga.

Our staff strive to respect, honour and understand tamariki in our care. We acknowledge and work with each tamaiti and their unique personalities.

Teachers walk alongside tamariki to support and guide them on the path to develop the skills, knowledge and virtues that will help prepare them for a successful and fulfilling life.

Our philosophy is guided and inspired by Te Whãriki, The Early Childhood Curriculum, ‘The Virtues Project’ and our wider community. Current theories and research about children’s learning and development is a high priority in the successful planning, assessment and evaluation.

We believe that quality early learning and nurturing in an unhurried, child focused environment helps our tamariki to build strong foundations for life.

Our philosophy reflects this vision with seven holistic aspirational learning and development outcomes for our Mokopuna. Our philosophy will inform and guide us. It will give us clear focus and direction to always seek the very best learning and developmental outcomes for our tamariki. Our philosophy will be fully entwined in our day to day practice of providing care and education for our taonga.
